LADYLIKE... from runways to Sophie's Closet...

It seems that everyone has been on a Mad Men mid-20th century kick lately. Full skirts and wasp-like waists, coupled with classic accessories and shoes, were one of the dominant themes on the F/W 2010 runways. Ladylike is a look most women appreciate: there is nothing quite as lovely as a pretty full-skirted dress, especially when it showcases our curves. But, of course, a lady needs some spectacular jewelry too!

Louis Vuitton, Valentino

We love the classic silhouette of the black-striped dress at Louis Vuitton, as well as the classic Valentino handbag. When choosing accessories, the trick to achieving a ladylike appearance is to keep them as simple and classic as possible. For example, pair your black dress with vintage gold Christian Dior or Kenneth Jay Lane black crystal earrings. To appear even more refined and polished, place your hair in a chignon or a ponytail and accessorize with a pretty pin or a comb.

Dries Van Notten, Mulberry

Fall is all about earth tones -- reds, browns, greens -- and we especially loved the combination of green and gold at Dries Van Notten. Is there a better combination? We think not, and that's why we love these Kenneth Jay Lane and Bounkit earrings. They are also perfect for the ladylike theme: classic and elegant.

Vera Wang, Dolce & Gabbana

Of course, skirts are not all that makes a lady. Lauren Bacall and Katherine Hepburn preferred them back in the day and we are in the 21 Century after all! We loved the simple compositions of black and white at the Vera Wang and Dolce & Gabbana F/W 2010 shows. We especially loved how Vera Wang accessorised all her models with pearls, whether there were bracelets, necklaces or earrings. Pearls are always so glamorous and feminine, single-stranded or layered. When in doubt, always go with the pearls: it's the easiest way to look polished and ladylike.
