Trend Alert: Pretty Punk

As the punk trend grows ever more popular, its anarchic spirit is infused into accessories, onto shoes and all over leather separates. Not only was punk a key theme on the AW2013 runway shows with Chanel, Saint Laurent and Versace just a few of the designers embracing the trend, the style set also know how to rock punchy punk (we’re talking influential fashionista’s Rita Ora, Pink and Jessica Alba).

Rita Ora

Stand-out spiked necklaces and bracelets add edge and a quirky-cool dimension to every ensemble, plus punk is always appealing and contemporary.

To bring revel references into your new season style, here are some spiked jewels that are sure to get the sartorial seal of approval.

NEON Spring

S/S 2012: Peter Som; Rodarte; Jason Wu;
Casadei; Roberto Cavalli; Christian Louboutin

When was the last time you wore neon? Well, you'll want to this season as these intense hues pop up in our favourite designer collections from Jason Wu to Christian Louboutin. Of course, if you kept an eye on Fashion Week Street Style, you may have noticed that neon accessories are must-haves for spring.

DANNIJO 'Delfine' Neon Green Bracelet
LEIVANKASH Feather Neon Green Cord Bracelet

Delicate little feather bracelet by LeiVanKash is being given a dose of neon with a vivid green cord, and Dannijo is brightening up their sparkly baubles with a fluorescent touch.

CC SKYE Neon Pink Portico Bracelet
DANNIJO Maui Neon Pink Blue Bracelet

The girliest of the neons is this bright fuchsia. For a hefty dose of neon pink, we are loving CC Skye's wrap bracelet and for a more subtle approach, we are loving the elegant pink and blue bracelet by Dannijo.

ERICKSON BEAMON 'Color Me Crazy' Earrings
CC SKYE Neon Yellow Screw Bracelet

Is there anything brighter than this intense neon yellow. (Okay, how gorgeous is this Jason Wu gown?) For a touch of glamour, we are coveting the super colourful 'Color Me Crazy' earrings by Erickson Beamon and for more casual days, one can't go wrong with a classic screw bracelet by CC Skye.

CELEBRITY SPOTTING

Time Out New York

We've been spotting our pretty jewels everywhere. Magazine covers, editorials, red carpets... all on beautiful, trendsetting celebrities.

Scarlett Johansson wearing DANNIJO 'Garbo' Earrings

Femme fatale Scarlett Johansson looks gorgeous and very festive on Time Out's holiday-themed cover. She is wearing Dannijo's 'Garbo' earrings to complete her vintage look.

Emma Roberts wearing DANNIJO 'Garbo' Earrings

Julia Roberts' talented niece, Emma Roberts, is like a tiny version of her. She looks adorable, and very Audrey Hepburn-esque, in her Dannijo 'Garbo' earrings.

Michelle Trachtenberg wearing Dannijo 'Mazati' Necklace

Gossip Girl's favourite bad girl (they should bring her back!), Michelle Tranchtenberg, looks sleek and beautiful with her dark red lipstick and her Dannijo 'Mazati' statement necklace.

Mila Kunis wearing CC SKYE 'Starburst' Bangles, Cosmopolitan (September 2011)

Stunning and funny girl, Mila Kunis, exudes effortless style. We love the soft sweetheart neckline of this dress, against CC Skye's hard edged 'Starburst' bangles.

Kirsten Dunst wearing EDDIE BORGO Gold Pave Cone Bracelet, FLARE (November 2011)

Kirsten Dunst is picture perfect on the cover of FLARE magazine, wearing a bright Giambattista Valli dress. Only one accessory to complete the look: Eddie Borgo's cone bracelet.

Olivia Palermo wearing LEIVANKASH Feather Bracelet

And last but not the least, is our favourite girl, Olivia Palermo, showing some love for LeiVanKash again. This time she opted for a feather bracelet, for a nice bright dose of turquoise.

Sophie's Closet in the Press

Harper's Bazaar Arabia (November 2011)

Our jewels have been making so many magazine appearances, we're starting to blush a little over the attention. From fashion glossies like Harper's Bazaar, U Magazine, and Flare, to the ultimate lifestyle guide, Time Out, to a celebrity must-read OK! magazine, to countless online features, everyone is talking about Sophie's Closet.

Our Joomi Lim spike bangle and our CC Skye 'Can't Buy Me Love' ring were featured in the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar Arabia, with one and only Janet Jackson on the cover.

OK! Middle East (October 13-19 2011)

And we got lots of love in OK! Middle East, with a two-page feature of Sophie's Closet, so wonderfully titled the "Treasure Trove."

OK! highlighted some of the glamorous pieces featured on Gossip Girl (a personal favourite of ours) like the Amrita Singh crystal drop earrings (as seen on Serena) and Siman Tu's stunning butterfly necklace (as seen on Blair), as well as his turquoise chandelier earrings (as seen on Lily). They also couldn't resists our rarities, such as the vintage Trifari bracelet (as seen on Olivia Palermo), and beautiful picks from Chanel and Sherman.

They didn't stop there! OK! also highlighted young and hip designs like Melinda Maria's python ring, CC Skye's spiked bracelet, House of Harlow's tribal turquoise earrings, Erickson Beamon's bright 'Color Me Crazy' earrings, Fallon's serpent earrings (as seen on ever-so-controversial Kim Kardashian), and Lulu Frost's precious chandeliers (as seen on Whitney Port).

Phew! There is more! Visit Sophie's Closet on Facebook to view all our press hits.

RING POWER

Gwyneth Paltrow

Although the last couple of posts were all about layering, this week we are taking a "less is more" kind of approach to accessorising. Taking cues from Hollywood's minimalists like Gwyneth Paltrow, we are focusing on the power of a great cocktail ring.

Emma Stone and Scarlett Johansson

When there is a spectacular dress in play, the best way to accessorize is with a great cocktail ring or maybe great earrings (but that's another post altogether). But the ring also has to be spectacular: large and flashy, enough to take notice all on its own.

KENNETH JAY LANE 'Discoball' Ring'

This Kenneth Jay Lane 'Discoball' reminds us of Gwyneth's giant Bavna diamond ring. So sculptural and sparkly, yet very modern and minimalist.

ERICKSON BEAMON 'Gold Digger' Ring

NOIR Pave Flower Ring

Both of these florals bring a ladylike vintage feel. Aptly titled 'Gold Digger', Erickson Beamon's ring is one of the most intricate we've ever seen, while Noir's flower is just plain beautiful. We see these on really feminine and glamorous girls like Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman.

CC SKYE 'Can't Buy Me Love' Ring

VITA FEDE 'Principe' Ring

CC Skye and Vita Fede borrow from the art deco era with these larger-than-life rings. The first one, of course, is a CC Skye signature (similar one was worn by Olivia Palermo a couple of years ago): so intricately made yet so powerful. Vita Fede's 'Principe' ring is as glamorous as it gets. Inspired by Venice’s grand Hotel Principe, its focal point is a large beautiful white pearl surrounded by cascading crystals. Some serious dazzle.

Here's to the power of a ring!

Jewellery Inspiration: JAK & JIL

We are big fans of street style. Okay, maybe not your average street but the streets of New York, Milan and Paris during fashion weeks when all the editors and fashion insiders come out decked out in the latest and perfectly accessorised. And they always take risks, mixing different styles together. It's the same when it comes to jewellery.

KENNETH JAY LANE Double Lion Head Bracelet;
VITA FEDE Vero Snakeskin Bracelet

Our favourite is Jak & Jil, a blog run by a fashion photographer Tommy Ton, precisely because he shoots a lot of accessories. The images are absolutely stunning and style inspiring. It always prompts us to push the envelope a bit and pull out some of the pieces we haven't worn in a while.

VITA FEDE Como Hex Bracelet

The styling provides us with endless combinations: things we would never pair up before now make so much sense. We think of it as the runway outside the runway. And New York Fashion Week is just around the corner!
