Street Chic at NYFW

Snowstorms may have delayed the shows, but the weather wasn’t stopping the world’s fasionista’s from making their scheduled appearance. Models, stylists, photographers, designers, celebs and journalists all made their way through the treturuous conditions to last week’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City.

We thought we’d take a sneaky peek at what the glitterati chose to wear to brave the city streets on one of the most fashionable (and coldest) days of the year. Here are their perfectly picked jewelry gems:

Ear Cuff

Listen up ladies! Both Aline Weber and Sofía Sanchez Barrenechea both adored their ears with the glitz and glamour of a Rodarte earring cuff. In fact, Sofía Sanchez Barrenechea also teamed her Rodarte gem with a co-ordinating Rodarte fringed leather jacket!

Get the rock-chic statement look for yourself with our very own Erickson Beamon Duchess of Fabulous Silver Ear Cuffs, complete with Swarovski crystals. (You’ll receive two ear cuffs, one for each ear). We’ve even a matching ring available too.

AED 1,995 (US) $543

Bow Headband

Girly girls will simply love an oversized bow headband, so it’s lucky we have quite a selection in stock! Ulyana Sergeenko looks truly lovely in her Chanel headband, even in the bitter cold.

Ulyana Sergeenko

Steal her style with our Gossip Girl Black Satin Bow Headband or opt for our Jennifer Behr Black Velvet Bow Headband, handwrapped in rich black velvet ribbon.

AED 590 (US) $161

Alternatively if you love the look and want to ramp up the girly factor even further, choose a blush pink bow headband. Try this Soft Silk Pink Bow Headband on for size. It’s also available in violet, black, and grey.

AED 490 (US) $133

Crystal Necklace

Tina Leung knows style when she sees it – we’ve an exact match of her simply stunning Joomi Lim Metal Luxe Crystal Spike Necklace. Statement-making and oh-so-chic, these Swarovski crystals and brass spikes will add shimmer and sparkle to your daywear and evening looks too.

AED 1,725 (US) $470

Animal Magic

Gold animal pieces are everywhere right now. Not only did the ever-gorgeous, trend-setting Cara Delevingne wear her lion statement chain pendant to New York Fashion Week, Rita Ora donned hers front row at London Fashion Week.

Cara Delevingne

Show off your wild side with one of Sophie’s Closet animal gems, such as our Pink Pave Gold Five Lion Head Necklace Set or our Vintage Trifari Tiger Brooch and Earrings Set, ideal for channelling your inner tigress.

AED 250 (US) $68

AED 2,250 (US) $613

Gold Hoops

Last but by no means least, the hoops still have it when it comes to stealing the show! Michelle Harper ensured her ears were the main attraction with her oversized, stand-out, glam gold earrings.

For a pair of your own gorgeous gold hoops, our Noir Large Gold Pyramid Spike Hoops offer everyday indulgence, whatever the occasion.

Celebrity Style: RIHANNA

Okay, so the dresses are a tad bit skimpy, but we are loving Rihanna's new sleeker style. Sure, she's only made two public appearances with her new look, but both were incredibly chic.

CC SKYE Love Me Knot Bangle Set
CC SKYE Pave Golden Nugget Bracelet

At the Grammy Awards, she walked the red carpet in a Giorgio Armani black halter gown, paired with shiny gold accessories. She is actually wearing a lot of jewellery but, because it's all in one shade, it appears really minimal.

NOIR Triple Cubic Zirconia Ring
MELINDA MARIA Python Pave Ring

The layering of multiple bangles and rings is really chic, making the ensemble modern and edgy. We're thinking a combination of CC Skye, Noir, and Melinda Maria should do the trick -- python is a must!

BELLE NOEL Mini Dagger Necklace

During London Fashion Week, Rihanna was a guest at Stella McCartney's aftershow, wearing a dark teal Stella McCartney spaghetti strap gown. Again she brought gold accessories to spice things up, pairing not one but two gold chokers. We would probably just stick to one statement piece, like Belle Noel's dagger necklace.

We doubt she'll be at the Oscars this weekend, but we are looking forward to seeing what she wears next!

TANGERINE Spring

S/S 2012: Carlos Miele; Alexander McQueen; Celine;
Victoria Beckham; Loeffler Randall

Happy New Year! It's time to think bright for spring with 2012's "colour of the year" Tangerine Tango. This bright reddish orange hue appeared on countless runways including Alexander McQueen, Celine, Carlos Miele, Peter Som, and Oscar de la Renta. Accessories, of course, are also following the trend, with shoes and bags from Alexander McQueen, Bottega Veneta, Victoria Beckham, Loeffler Randall, and Christian Dior, just to name a few. But let's not forget about bright tangerine jewels!

Alexander McQueen S/S 2012
LEIVANKASH Feather Bracelet
KENNETH JAY LANE Turquoise Coral Brooch

For an antique look, we love both Kenneth Jay Lane's opulent turquoise and coral brooch, and the beautifully simple feather bracelet by LeiVanKash.

Celine S/S 2012
HOUSE OF HARLOW Coral Tribal Ring
NOIR Shaka Lanyard Bracelet

For a more sporty, casual look that echoes Celine S/S 2012, we love Noir's new 'Shaka' lanyard bracelet with gold hardware, and House of Harlow's 'Tribal' ring (it's a little art deco too, no?).

Carlos Miele S/S 2012
KENNETH JAY LANE Coral Drop Earrings
BOUNKIT Topaz Peridot and Coral Bracelet

And for those ultra glamorous moments, we are coveting Kenneth Jay Lane's dramatic oversized chandelier coral earrings, and Bounkit's stunning beaded coral cuff.

Trend Spotting: JEWELLED CHANDELIERS

Flare (November 2011)

Winter is a great time to amp up the glamour. Magazines are doing some of the most dazzling editorials right now as we prepare for end of the year celebrations and galas. We are seeing a lot of statement chandelier earrings with jewelled tones: some that are dark and mysterious like black and Sapphire blue, and some brighter shades like jades and emeralds.

Dark jewels are stark, minimal, and incredibly elegant. We just received these beautiful sparkling pave ones from Noir. And we can never get enough of Siman Tu, of course.

NOIR Black Pave 'Doorknocker' Earrings

SIMAN TU Chandelier Smoky Quartz Earrings

Elle Sweden (October 2011)

Blue is always so dreamy and romantic. We love our new Erickson Beamon earringss -- so incredibly glamorous and sparkly! And we also adore Dannijo's art deco inspired blue and gold statement chandeliers.

ERICKSON BEAMON Blue Bossa Nova Earrings

DANNIJO 'Tayana' Earrings

Vogue Japan (October 2011)

Lastly, we love bright and rich jade and emerald hues, as worn by supermodel Crystal Renn in Vogue. We just received these vintage YSL drop earrings from the Carole Tanenbaum collection, and they are just so perfect for the look! And, of course, our trusty Siman Tu green aventurine chandeliers are always our go-tos for a glamours evening.

PRETTY PICTURES: Vintage Glamour

Jessica Stam in Numero (October 2011)
In Sophie's Closet: Vintage OSCAR DE LA RENTA Button Earrings

We love the vintage feel in many fall editorials. There is a particular focus on 1950s and 60s ladylike style. Take Jessica Stam in Numero gorgeously styled in a little chapeau and big clip-on button earrings. So pretty!

Kate Winslet in W (October 2011)
In Sophie's Closet: MIRIAM HASKELL Flower & Leaf Button Earrings
NOIR Panther Ring

Or Kate Winslet in W magazine channeling Elizabeth Taylor in leopard print, floral studs and a tiger cocktail ring (you know how much we love animal motifs).

Lara Stone in V (September 2011)

Then there is Lara Stone in this ultra quirky V Magazine take on the 1950s glam beauty, complete with dazzling sapphires, Hermes, and little porcelain puppies.

Vogue Japan (October 2011)
In Sophie's Closet: ERICKSON BEAMON 'Bosa Nova' Earrings

We can't go glam without a bit of 1980s. Here is Crystal Renn in this colourful, very Dynasty-inspired Vogue Japan editorial. Her big hair, big lips, that little hat, that veil, and those pretty pink earrings -- perfection!

FALL FLORALS... inspired by LANVIN F/W 2011

Lanvin F/W 2011

Lanvin is definitely one of our favourite runway collections for the fall season. Of course, Alber Elbaz always does beautiful clothing, but this time we couldn't take our eyes off the jewels. Opulent and vintage inspired florals took centre stage against the backdrop of crisp and sculptural tailoring. Since we are always in for a little floral action, we are all over this look.

VINTAGE Extra Large Rhinestone Earrings
ERICKSON BEAMON 'Gold Digger' Earrings
LEIVANKASH 'Olivia' Rose Ring
LULU FROST Crystal Mesh Bracelet

The big dramatic flower is so incredibly stunning, it would look great with anything, let alone a pink Lanvin dress. And it looks so wonderfully vintage: part Victorian, part art deco.

ERICKSON BEAMON 'Great Expectation' Bracelet
ERICKSON BEAMON 'Gold Digger' Ring
NOIR Pave Floral Ring
ERICKSON BEAMON 'Pomp & Circumstance' Bracelet

Then there are these beautiful stacked floral cuffs. Again, slightly on the antique side. So lovely juxtaposed against the modern and sculptural red Lanvin dress.

In this case, size really does matter. Choose big statement pieces and layer them together. Because, according to Lanvin, multiple florals are as chic as it gets!

Jewellery Inspiration: BLAKE LIVELY's Layered Bracelets

Once again we are coveting Blake Lively's style (check our post on her earrings). It helps that she is always wearing gorgeous Chanel gowns and perpetually looks perfect. Here she is at The Green Lantern premiere accessorized to the nines with multiple layers of silver and gold bracelets by Lorraine Schwartz.

Left:
ERICKSON BEAMON Pomp and Circumstance Bracelet;
KENNETH JAY LANE Art Deco Bracelet;
ZIRCONMANIA Pave Link Bracelet in Gold;
NOIR Mini Full Pave Pyramid Double Wrap Bracelet
Right:
ZIRCONMANIA Pave Link Bracelet in Gunmetal;
KENNETH JAY LANE Double Lion Head Bracelet;
NOIR Mini Full Pave Pyramid Single Bracelet;
CC SKYE Pave Stud Bracelets

To get Blake's look, we've selected some similar pieces from Sophie's Closet. When it comes to layering, it's best to stock up on basics like Noir's and CC Skye's pave pyramid bracelets or Zirconmania's links. They are great as they go with everything. Then, add a couple of statement pieces like Erickson Beamon's intricate creations or extravagant pieces by Kenneth Jay Lane. Voilà! Just like Blake.

PS. We can't wait for Gossip Girl to start!

SUMMER SPIKES... from Runways to Sophie's Closet

Giselle Bunchen wearing Balmain in V Magazine (April 2011)

There is nothing wrong with letting our inner tough girl shine: a little bit of punk rock can be just as glamorous as diamonds. And Burberry, Balmain and Jean Paul Gaultier all seem to agree.

BURBERRY F/W 2011;
NOIR Stackable Rings;
JOOMI LIM Gold Spike Bangles;
JOOMI LIM Gold Spike Ring

Burberry's spring collection is an intriguing mix of tough and feminine. We're thinking that Noir's stackable rings and Joomi Lim's spikey rings and bracelets have a similar feel.

BALMAIN S/S 2011;
NOIR Gold Pave Cones Bangle;
CC SKYE Silver Pave Stud Ring;
NOIR Mini Pave Pyramid Silver Double Wrap

Balmain is determined to keep punk rock alive, in a very glamorous way -- reminds us of something Gwen Stefani or Rhianna would wear. Instead of a plain old stud, go for sparkly pave ones like Noir and CC Skye (so ladylike at the same time).

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER Couture 2011;
CC SKYE Pave 'Wicked' Ring;
NOIR Long Drop Spike Earrings

We love the shape of this Jean Paul Gaultier purse. It kind of looks like a medieval weapon of sorts. And almost identical shape to Noir's drop earrings and, if it was cut in half, the CC Skye 'Wicked' ring. Little spikey balls: it doesn't get cuter than that!

ANIMAL JEWELS

CARTIER 'Panther' Bracelet (sold for £4.52 million)

We can credit the late Duchess of Windsor for popularising animal-themed jewels. Hew opulent panther bracelet, designed by Cartier for their “Great Cat” series and gifted to her by Prince Edward, caused quite a fashion stir in 1952. Needless to say, every woman wanted one (and her own Prince too). Soon after, designers like Kenneth Jay Lane began making pieces inspired by the famous cat. Her Cartier panther was recently sold at an auction for £4.52 million and rumour has it that it was purchased by Madonna.

Our Kenneth Jay Lane's tiger bracelet was worn by Leighton Meester in L'Officiel's March issue and his animal cuffs have many celebrity fans like Rhianna, Jennifer Lopez and Hilary Duff.

Adding to the cat craze is the 'Panthere' ring, also designed by Cartier. First introduced in 1912, it's been having a major comeback in the recent years. As seen on style mavens like Lady Gaga, Rhianna, Eva Mendes, Diane Kruger, Jessica Alba, Anne Hathaway and stylist Rachel Zoe, this little guy may just be the most coveted jewel on Hollywood. We loved its casual styling on Kirsten Stewart in Vanity Fair.

CARTIER 'Panthere' Ring ($15,000)

Of course, not everyone has $15,000 to spend on a giant panther head! No worries, Noir has its own cheep n' cheerful version and a selection of other animal friends to choose from, like pigs, hippos (worn by Katie Perry) and elephants (did you know that Cartier has an 'Elephant' watch?).

Thanks Duchess of Windsor and Cartier for making our animal friends so fashionable!
