So long Serena Van Der Woodsen

Serena Van Der Woodsen

Just like Blair, we cannot simply let Gossip Girl finish and not pay tribute to the stunning jewels, bad-girl-gone-goodish Serena wore, in such effortless 'S' style.

Green with Envy

Emerald Green has been a definite favorite of the top design houses this season, featuring heavily on the runways of Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Stella McCartney and adorned by the most glamorous celebrities on the red carpet and also street style.

This bright, sophisticated and versatile color will be sure to feature in your wardrobe this season.

Gucci S/S 2013
Melinda Maria earrings

Emerald Green was featured in Gucci's Spring Summer 2013 runway show, in extreme block color form. Gucci's creative director Frida Giannini has been a great advocator of jewel tones in her most recent collections. Creating romantic and eccentric looks, using block color with a variety of materials such as fur, silk, chiffon and leather. This bold outfit would be perfect teamed with the beautiful Melinda Maria earrings.

Stella McCartney S/S 2013
LeiVanKash Parsa Pyramid Bracelets

Stella McCartney stepped away from her signature style of sharp tailoring and sexy femininity and incorporated a more masculine and casual take on block coloring. To match the more casual approach, we would suggest teaming the look with a bunch of LeiVanKash Parsa Pyramid bracelets.

Anna Della Russo
Shourouk Aplolonia Emerald Necklace
Dannijo Green Cecil earrings

No-one quite does excess like Anna Dello Russo. Every outfit the Vogue Japan editor creates, can only be described as a piece of art. Known for wearing radical runway pieces by day and never wearing an outfit twice, the over-the-top fashion icon is pictured here in a beautiful emerald green Dolce & Gabbana dress. To complete this statement look, we would either add the Shourouk Aplolonia Emerald Necklace or the Dannijo Green Cecil Earrings.

Thinking Baroque

Interview Germany (October 2012)

Baroque is the art period of the moment. (A couple of seasons ago, it was all about Art Deco.) We love its audacity, its opulence and, most importantly, Baroque and jewellery go together like milk and cookies.

Milan Fashion Week street style, photographed by Tommy Ton

The fashion crowd in Milan has fully embraced this lavish look, as captured by Tommy Ton -- all the colours, florals and gold!

Valentino F/W 2012

Valentino's current collection plays on the softer, more romantic side of the trend with delicate pinks, mixed with glistening gold.

Miu Miu F/W 2012

Miu Miu and its printed suits sure look like antique upholstery, accented by gold accessories.

Anna Dello Russo, photographed by Tommy Ton

Fashion eccentric Anna Dello Russo knows how to make a fashion week entrance and she's chosen Dolce & Gabbana's dazzling collection to do so.

Dolce & Gabbana F/W 2012

We love all the gold leafy embroidery, large drop earrings, and jewelled headpieces we wrote about a couple of weeks ago.

Dolce & Gabbana F/W 2012

And the combination of gold and pearls is always a winning one (just look at this intricate little bag!), and it's precisely what we want to wear in the fall.

Celebrity Style: RIHANNA

Okay, so the dresses are a tad bit skimpy, but we are loving Rihanna's new sleeker style. Sure, she's only made two public appearances with her new look, but both were incredibly chic.

CC SKYE Love Me Knot Bangle Set
CC SKYE Pave Golden Nugget Bracelet

At the Grammy Awards, she walked the red carpet in a Giorgio Armani black halter gown, paired with shiny gold accessories. She is actually wearing a lot of jewellery but, because it's all in one shade, it appears really minimal.

NOIR Triple Cubic Zirconia Ring
MELINDA MARIA Python Pave Ring

The layering of multiple bangles and rings is really chic, making the ensemble modern and edgy. We're thinking a combination of CC Skye, Noir, and Melinda Maria should do the trick -- python is a must!

BELLE NOEL Mini Dagger Necklace

During London Fashion Week, Rihanna was a guest at Stella McCartney's aftershow, wearing a dark teal Stella McCartney spaghetti strap gown. Again she brought gold accessories to spice things up, pairing not one but two gold chokers. We would probably just stick to one statement piece, like Belle Noel's dagger necklace.

We doubt she'll be at the Oscars this weekend, but we are looking forward to seeing what she wears next!

Sophie's Closet in the Press

Harper's Bazaar Arabia (November 2011)

Our jewels have been making so many magazine appearances, we're starting to blush a little over the attention. From fashion glossies like Harper's Bazaar, U Magazine, and Flare, to the ultimate lifestyle guide, Time Out, to a celebrity must-read OK! magazine, to countless online features, everyone is talking about Sophie's Closet.

Our Joomi Lim spike bangle and our CC Skye 'Can't Buy Me Love' ring were featured in the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar Arabia, with one and only Janet Jackson on the cover.

OK! Middle East (October 13-19 2011)

And we got lots of love in OK! Middle East, with a two-page feature of Sophie's Closet, so wonderfully titled the "Treasure Trove."

OK! highlighted some of the glamorous pieces featured on Gossip Girl (a personal favourite of ours) like the Amrita Singh crystal drop earrings (as seen on Serena) and Siman Tu's stunning butterfly necklace (as seen on Blair), as well as his turquoise chandelier earrings (as seen on Lily). They also couldn't resists our rarities, such as the vintage Trifari bracelet (as seen on Olivia Palermo), and beautiful picks from Chanel and Sherman.

They didn't stop there! OK! also highlighted young and hip designs like Melinda Maria's python ring, CC Skye's spiked bracelet, House of Harlow's tribal turquoise earrings, Erickson Beamon's bright 'Color Me Crazy' earrings, Fallon's serpent earrings (as seen on ever-so-controversial Kim Kardashian), and Lulu Frost's precious chandeliers (as seen on Whitney Port).

Phew! There is more! Visit Sophie's Closet on Facebook to view all our press hits.

BOHO CHIC... from Runways to Sophie's Closet

ANNA SUI S/S 2011

Every season, there are a few designers that really embrace boho chic. Of course, stars like Nicole Richie, Sienna Miller and Mary-Kate Olsen rock the look all year around. There are several interpretations of boho and a number of ways one can accessorize. Whether through antique-looking gold, bright colour combinations or tribal patterns, here are some ways to achieve the boho style.

GOLDEN GLOWS

ANNA SUI S/S 2011

Think of this look like Ancient Greece meets California style. Flowy dresses can be paired with antique-like gold accessories. The older-looking the better! We suggest the coin necklace from Kenneth Jay Lane or one of the beautiful sculptural Melinda Maria rings.

KENNETH JAY LANE Multi Coin Necklace

MELINDA MARIA 'Vanessa' Pod Ring

TROPICALIA

MISSONI S/S 2011

The thing that's really great about boho style is the embrace of big bright colours. We love the Missoni collection this season: it really captures a bohemian tropical beach fantasy with its highly saturated shades. We suggest accessorizing with colourful beads in coral and turquoise.

KENNETH JAY LANE Turquoise Coral Bracelet

BOUNKIT Coral Cuff

TRIBAL PATTERNS

L.A.M.B S/S 2011

Tribal print is a great, less girlie alternative to florals. It still captures the flower-child character, but it seems a little hipper. We love the pieces by one of our favourite boho icons, Nicole Richie.

HOLIDAY STYLE

Alessandra Ambrosio by Giampaolo Sgura for Vogue Nippon (December 2010)

The holiday season is approaching and it's time to step up the glitter and gold. No one wants to ring in the New Year wearing something boring. But the truth is, every outfit without accessories is a little bit boring. We truly stand by this theory at Sophie's Closet.

The pages of December issues were covered in sexy metallics and sparkly jewels, so we were inspired to do some "dressing up" ourselves. We grabbed some of our favourite cocktail dresses and killer heels from Net-a-Porter and paired them with our accessories. Our muse? Alessandra Ambrosio in this stunning photo from Japanese Vogue. Sticking with metallics and blacks, we created three looks: Flirty Art Deco, Modern Goddess and Rock Chic.

FLIRTY ART DECO

from Net-a-Porter: MILLY dress; JIMMY CHOO shoes; JUDITH LEIBER clutch;
from Sophie's Closet: CC SKYE "Power" ring (AED 880); RACHEL LEIGH bangles (AED 640 each) and earrings (AED 290)

This look is defined by geometric lines and patterns (think 1920s architecture). We love the contrast of the soft lace dress with hard edge lines of the Judith Leiber clutch, CC Skye's ring and Rachel Leigh's chandelier earrings.

MODERN GODDESS

from Net-a-Porter: ALEXANDER WANG dress; ROBERTO CAVALLI shoes; LANVIN clutch;
from Sophie's Closet: MELINDA MARIA "Mademoiselle" ring (AED 530); MELINDA MARIA bracelets (AED 450 each); SIMAN TU earrings (AED 1400)

Every woman is attracted to soft draped garments. They have that Greek goddess feel, especially when it's off one shoulder. Goddesses are a little over the top so we decided to add some feathers, pearls and gold to the mix. One of the biggest misconceptions is that all jewelry has to match all the time. It's definitely not true. We love mixing stones, metals and styles. It makes the outfit more unexpected and edgy.

ROCK CHIC

from Net-a-Porter: SASS & BIDE dress; ALEXANDER WANG shoes; ANYA HINDMARCH clutch;
from Sophie's Closet: BOUNKIT earrings (AED 1640); CC Skye "Angel Wing" ring (AED 570); Joomi Lim spiked bangles (AED 470); Jeniffer Behr leather headband (AED 990)

Nothing is sexier than a little rock chic. This peek-a-boo dress by Sass & Bide is the embodiment of it without being trashy. With an amazing long front zipper, sequins and fine mesh, all detailed with gold, this dress was screaming for gold overload. We added winged Alexander McQueen booties and our matching CC Skye wing ring. No rock look is complete without some spikes and studs so, of course, we used Joomi Lim and Jennifer Behr. And to soften it back up: some glamorous jewels by Bounkit. The rock lady is still a lady after all.

More holiday looks coming up next week! In the meantime, visit www.shopatsophiescloset.com to view our complete selection.

ON THE RED CARPET: The Emmys

January Jones in Versace; Kenneth Jay Lane Flower Enamel Ring with Pearl (AED 400)

The Emmys can be just as glamorous as the Oscars and the Golden Globes, and it seems like lately that the best talent in Hollywood appears on the small screen. Take for example, January Jones, the amazingly talented and gorgeous star of Mad Men. She is quickly becoming a fashion favourite by not playing it safe, often dressed in spectacular Versace gowns. She takes the cake for the best dressed as far as we're concerned. January's Versace dress didn't need flashy accessories, just a pretty flower-shaped ring. If you loved January's ring, we suggest giving Kenneth Jay Lane a try.

Leah Michelle in Oscar de la Renta; Siman Tu Cubic Zirconia Bangles (Pre-Order Item, Wide AED 1550, Narrow AED 1250)

Glee's favourite diva, Leah Michelle, wore a ultra-feminine Oscar de la Renta gown with opulent antique-like accessories that echoed Old Hollywood. She just had to make a big entrance for her big Emmy debut. Although we're not sure whose jewelry designs Leah wore, they certainly look a lot like Siman Tu's.

Anna Paquin in Alexander McQueen; Melinda Maria Teeny Pod Bangles (AED 350 each); Vita Fede Combina Single Bracelet (AED 340); CC Skye Pave Stud Bracelet Gold (AED 1100)

The runner-up for best dressed had to be True Blood's Anna Paquin in her gorgeous black and gold Alexander McQueen dress. We love the way she matched her bracelets with the dress. For a similar layered look, we suggest mixing Melinda Maria, Vita Fede and CC Skye.

Elisabeth Moss in Donna Karan; Kenneth Jay Lane Antique Drop Earrings (AED 620); Lisa Freede Laser-Cut Swarovski Crystal Bracelets (AED 570)

Another fabulous lady of Mad Men, Elisabeth Moss also went for Old Hollywood glamour by pairing her one-shoulder cream Donna Karan gown with diamond drop earrings and layered diamond bracelets. For those on a budget, we suggest Kenneth Jay Lane's drop earrings and Lisa Freede's crystal wrap bracelets. They are just as shiny as diamonds!

Kim Kardashian in Marchesa; Kenneth Jay Lane Gold & Crystal Flower Earrings (AED 900)

Although we are not sure why Kim Kardashian got invited to the Emmys, we have to agree that the girl is gorgeous! She certainly knows how to work the red carpet and play up her exotic looks. Her Marchesa gown was paired beautifully with diamond flower stud earrings - a much softer look for Kim than the usual femme fatale.

Eva Longoria Parker in Robert Rodriguez; Siman Tu Amethyst Chandelier Earrings (AED 1800)

Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria is a classic beauty that opted for a black Robert Rodriguez column gown. Her look would have been a little boring if not for her purple chandelier earrings. We love our Siman Tu earrings that are very similar in both shape and colour.

Nina Dobrev in Armani Prive; Siman Tu "Black Diamond" Earrings (AED 1650)

Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev also made her Emmy debut with a bang in a sparkly Armani gown. As with Eva Longoria, a classic gown is best paired with chandelier earrings. Again, we would turn to Siman Tu for a stunning pair.

Heidi Klum in Marchesa; Vintage 1950s Christian Dior Earrings (AED 5500, price includes matching brooch)

Heidi Klum's Marchesa mini dress was pretty silly. Yes, Heidi, we get it: you have great legs. Her lavish necklace was really spectacular though. It had the same vintage feel as our vintage Christian Dior earrings. Maybe she should have worn those too to distract from her silly cocktail dress?

Keri Russell in vintage Scherrer and Jennifer Behr; Jennifer Behr "Bella" Flower Comb (Pre-Orders Only, AED 970)

We are excited for Keri Russell's new show premiering in the fall and it's great to see her getting so much attention again. It's also great to see that she wore Jennifer Behr's "Bella" flower comb! We just wish she didn't pair it with a hot pink dress but we give her props for going for a bold colour. But seriously, how cute is Keri?

Emily Blunt in Dior; Ban.dō Crystal Pin (AED 590); Jennifer Behr "Flora" Crystal Antique Flower (AED 950)

Newlyweds Emily Blunt and John Krasinski looked like a happy stylish couple. Emily wore an embellished lilac Dior gown and therefore went light on accessories. A little sparkly comb garnishing her chignon was all she needed. To replicate Emily's hairstyle, we suggest Ban.dō or Jeniffer Behr's stunning "Flora" comb.

Aren't award shows the best? We can't wait for the next award season to start!

MELINDA MARIA

Isla Fisher wearing Melinda Maria

The newest and hottest designer favoured by Hollywood stars is Melinda Maria. Her design philosophy was born out of an idea of creating fine crafted and detailed costume jewelry that could easily be mistaken for high-end sparklers. Her motto is that one doesn't have to spend thousands of dollars to look like a million. Melinda Maria's pieces have caught the eye of numerous hip celebrities including the pretty woman herself, Julia Roberts. Accessibility and affordability is something that sits at the core of the Melinda Maria label: just because Julia Roberts wears it, it doesn't mean that we can't!

In fact, these pieces are not only stunningly beautiful and meticulously crafted, but are also extremely affordable and definitely deliver Hollywood glamour. Whether going dressy or casual, Julia Roberts absolutely sparkles in her Melinda Maria jewels.

Young Hollywood has also taken notice. The gorgeous Vanessa Hudgens owns multiple pieces from Melinda Maria and is often seen sporting her "Pod" ring. "The Pod Ring is one of my absolute favorites. It compliments every outfit and other piece of jewelry I put on," says Vanessa. We think this adorably hip actress is one of Hollywood's best young talents and a budding style icon.

Style maven Kate Bosworth and super sassy actress Lucy Liu have both been photographed wearing the Mademoiselle earrings. They are absolutely gorgeous, with a bit of an antique heirloom feel, and come with a matching ring.

Some other celebrities spotted rocking their Melinda Maria jewels are Lauren Conrad, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez and Oprah, who featured the pieces in multiple issue of O Magazine. With an impressive list of clientele, heads will certainly turn to take notice of Melinda Maria for years to come.
