PRETTY PICTURES: Vintage Glamour

Jessica Stam in Numero (October 2011)
In Sophie's Closet: Vintage OSCAR DE LA RENTA Button Earrings

We love the vintage feel in many fall editorials. There is a particular focus on 1950s and 60s ladylike style. Take Jessica Stam in Numero gorgeously styled in a little chapeau and big clip-on button earrings. So pretty!

Kate Winslet in W (October 2011)
In Sophie's Closet: MIRIAM HASKELL Flower & Leaf Button Earrings
NOIR Panther Ring

Or Kate Winslet in W magazine channeling Elizabeth Taylor in leopard print, floral studs and a tiger cocktail ring (you know how much we love animal motifs).

Lara Stone in V (September 2011)
In Sophie's Closet: KENNETH JAY LANE Aqua Peridot Drop Earrings;

Then there is Lara Stone in this ultra quirky V Magazine take on the 1950s glam beauty, complete with dazzling sapphires, Hermes, and little porcelain puppies.

Vogue Japan (October 2011)
In Sophie's Closet: ERICKSON BEAMON 'Bosa Nova' Earrings

We can't go glam without a bit of 1980s. Here is Crystal Renn in this colourful, very Dynasty-inspired Vogue Japan editorial. Her big hair, big lips, that little hat, that veil, and those pretty pink earrings -- perfection!

PRETTY PICTURES: "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty"

We wish we could jet over to New York just to see this exhibition. "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art looks so breathtakingly beautiful! McQueen, never being one to take a conventional take on fashion, always looked to historical events and figures to create his narratives. The result was often a strong female figure, also with a sense of certain fragility.

Being a great couturier, each garment consisted of such intricate delicacies, whether it was beadwork, lacework, pleats and ruffles, feathers, or even real flowers sewn onto the garments.

The garments are so beautiful, we could stare at them forever. It's hard to believe how much this designer accomplished in such a short lifespan.

There is spectacular jewellery too, or more like body armour, really. Hopefully, we will soon be able to see it in person. For now, we'll have to settle for the exhibition catalogue.

PRETTY PICTURES: Leighton Meester in L'Officiel

L'Officiel Lithuania (March 2011)

Our favourite Gossip Girl, Leighton Meester, looked drop dead gorgeous on the cover of L'Officiel. Her hair was slicked back with neutral and dewy makeup. She wore a stunning pink Lanvin halter top with a super bright and summery Jil Sander (one of our favourite S/S shows) skirt. On both of her wrists: Kenneth Jay Lane bangles!

Kenneth Jay Lane Double Lion Head Bracelet

We are glad that she wore one of our favourites: this ruby double lion head.

Inside the magazine, Leighton wore a minimalist Max Mara top accessorized by more Kenneth Jay Lane bangles!

Kenneth Jay Lane Black Enamel Tiger Bracelet

This enamel tiger also made an appearance! Isn't he adorable?

Kenneth Jay Lane Crystal Centre Sides Bangle

And for extra sparkle between her animal friends, Leighton wore 'plain' ornamental bangles. We love a girl that knows how to mix and match her jewels!

PRETTY PICTURES: Spring Jewellery

Vogue Australia (April 2011)

Other than runways, we are always looking at magazine editorials for styling inspiration. Mixing designers and different pieces together is such a work of art and a tricky thing to achieve.

Vogue Australia (April 2011)

Vogue Australia did kind of a tropical bohemian theme here by layering of several necklaces. It's a stunning look and it really works! Gold in different shapes, turquoise flowers and beads are impeccably mixed together. We think we'll be trying this look.

French Revue de Modes S/S

Here is a different take on bohemian by French Revue de Modes. Again, a mix of turquoise and gold but with a little bit of a rock n' roll edge with the studded bracelets. We especially love the antique looking belt.

Harper's Bazaar Australia (April 2011)

Keeping things fairly simple but adding several pops of colour may be the main theme this season. Same goes with jewellery, especially chunky bracelets and bangles. We love the styling in Harper's Bazaar Australia: the layering of several simple necklaces and bracelets. Still remains very minimal.

Harper's Bazaar Spain (March 2011)

For a more tropical and tribal theme on colour-blocking, take note from Harper's Bazaar Spain. Keeping this fairly simple again by just layering multiple colourful bangles.

Harper’s Bazaar US (March 2011)

Is there a season when gold is not in? Well, it's getting a bit of a harder edge this season with chains and studs. We love this multiple chain choker necklace and matching bracelets. Definitely a little on a dangerous side.

Vogue China (April 2011)

Studs and spikes are as hot as ever, as demonstrated by Vogue China. The studded collar and cuffs are sensational. Feels a little bit 1980s, but very glamourous indeed.

Vogue Spain (January 2011)

We were waiting for a chance to post these pics of Sophie's Closet's favourite, Olivia Palermo, since January. She is perfect! We love the sparkly jewels she is wearing, especially the hair pin. Very Sophie's Closet and chic every season.

We are feeling inspired.
