BOHO CHIC... from Runways to Sophie's Closet

ANNA SUI S/S 2011

Every season, there are a few designers that really embrace boho chic. Of course, stars like Nicole Richie, Sienna Miller and Mary-Kate Olsen rock the look all year around. There are several interpretations of boho and a number of ways one can accessorize. Whether through antique-looking gold, bright colour combinations or tribal patterns, here are some ways to achieve the boho style.

GOLDEN GLOWS

ANNA SUI S/S 2011

Think of this look like Ancient Greece meets California style. Flowy dresses can be paired with antique-like gold accessories. The older-looking the better! We suggest the coin necklace from Kenneth Jay Lane or one of the beautiful sculptural Melinda Maria rings.

TROPICALIA

MISSONI S/S 2011

The thing that's really great about boho style is the embrace of big bright colours. We love the Missoni collection this season: it really captures a bohemian tropical beach fantasy with its highly saturated shades. We suggest accessorizing with colourful beads in coral and turquoise.

TRIBAL PATTERNS

L.A.M.B S/S 2011

Tribal print is a great, less girlie alternative to florals. It still captures the flower-child character, but it seems a little hipper. We love the pieces by one of our favourite boho icons, Nicole Richie.

PRETTY PICTURES: Leighton Meester in L'Officiel

L'Officiel Lithuania (March 2011)

Our favourite Gossip Girl, Leighton Meester, looked drop dead gorgeous on the cover of L'Officiel. Her hair was slicked back with neutral and dewy makeup. She wore a stunning pink Lanvin halter top with a super bright and summery Jil Sander (one of our favourite S/S shows) skirt. On both of her wrists: Kenneth Jay Lane bangles!

Kenneth Jay Lane Double Lion Head Bracelet

We are glad that she wore one of our favourites: this ruby double lion head.

Inside the magazine, Leighton wore a minimalist Max Mara top accessorized by more Kenneth Jay Lane bangles!

Kenneth Jay Lane Black Enamel Tiger Bracelet

This enamel tiger also made an appearance! Isn't he adorable?

Kenneth Jay Lane Crystal Centre Sides Bangle

And for extra sparkle between her animal friends, Leighton wore 'plain' ornamental bangles. We love a girl that knows how to mix and match her jewels!

Erickson Beamon CHANDELIERS!

We are in love! They are like giant pieces of jewellery for our homes! Just as we thought Erickson Beamon jewels couldn't get more beautiful, we discover these.

Having one of these would be like living in Versailles. Then we could pretend that we are Marie Antoinette (minus the whole French Revolution thing) and prance around in our prettiest frocks while eating macaroons and sipping tea from our finest porcelain cups.

Raquel Zimmerman in Versailles, Vogue (September 2007)

The combination and the variety of jewels is just spectacular! The beads, the crystals, the porcelain flowers, the cameo details... Gorgeous!

A bit less girlie but equally as glamorous is this pearl and crystal one. It's elegant and neutral enough that even the men in our lives would approve of it. And if they didn't, we'd create a room just for it, where we would keep all of our prettiest things. Much like Sophie's Closet!

Versailles Galerie des Glaces

Bad news: the chandeliers start at $25,000. But they are totally worth it!

Introducing ERICKSON BEAMON

We are beyond excited about this line that just arrived to Sophie's Closet. It's probably the coolest, hippest jewellery around. Inspired by opulent vintage, it's Old World elegance meets contemporary chic. Erickson Beamon (founded by Vicki Beamon and Karen Erickson) jewellery is worn by some of the most glamorous women in the world, from classy gals like Michelle Obama and Gwyneth Paltrow to risk-takers like Daphne Guinness and Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga in Erickson Beamon

C'mon, who else could have pulled off this head piece? Only Lady Gaga.

ERICKSON BEAMON 'Great Expectations' Earrings

Well, we didn't order the Gaga piece, but we did get some great and wearable gems. Like these sparkly drop earrings. So beautiful, very Sherman-esque vintage.

ERICKSON BEAMON 'Dangerous Liaisons' Bracelet

We love how some of the pieces are named after famous films. And don't the 'Great Expectations' earrings go amazingly well with the 'Dangerous Liaisons' bracelet?

ERICKSON BEAMON 'Bosa Nova' Earrings

Of course, there are lots of glamorous golds and bright jewels in the collection. For instance, these 'Bosa Nova' earrings are about as divine as it gets.

ERICKSON BEAMON 'Pomp and Circumstance' Bracelet

This bracelet is an absolute stunner. It could be from the 1920s (or even earlier) and many wouldn't be able to tell that it's not vintage. It looks like something Olivia Palermo would wear.

ERICKSON BEAMON 'Gold Digger' Necklace

We love the necklaces. They are so unique and bursting with personality. Like the playfulness of 'Gold Digger': the pendants and chains all interweaving together.

ERICKSON BEAMON 'Razor's Edge' Necklace

We've already proclaimed our love for fringe last week. This necklace is no exception. It could go with everything, even a simple white t-shirt.

LULU FROST's Modern Vintage

Vogue (December 1940)

While many designers take inspiration from vintage, Lulu Frost designer Lisa Salzer actually uses vintage pieces to create contemporary looks. She grew up in a family whose business is in estate jewellery so she has a very sophisticated eye when it comes to vintage. Her work is very much a collage of old and new. All the pieces stay true to their glamours past.

LULU FROST Tassel Necklace

Dolores Del Rio in 1930s

The tassel met the height of popularity during the jazz age of the 1920s and 30s. Many women also wore the necklaces backwards to accent their backs. Lulu Frost's tassel necklace is a flawless mixture of antiquity and modernity.

LULU FROST Art Deco Earrings

These Art Deco earrings are very Old Hollywood. A style that began in 1920s and 30s became extremely popular again in 1950 due to its crisp lines. Chandelier earrings are one of those eternally glamourous and timeless pieces. We think Grace Kelly would agree.

LULU FROST Pearl Turquoise Concho Earrings

While the other earrings are very Old Hollywood, these feel very 1960s bohemian. It's problably because of the use of turquoise and antique gold -- it was something that became very popular after the release of Cleopatra in the early 1960. Plus, it really complimented the free-spirited feel of that decade. We just adore these butterfly-like drop earrings -- really reminds us of the iconic Vogue cover.

LULU FROST Triple Concho Bracelet

Of course, there is the matching bracelet too. It was worn by a vintage collector, and Sophie's Closet favourite, Olivia Palermo.

LULU FROST Crystal Brooch Bracelet

We also love this crystal brooch bracelet. It's such a beautiful composition of sparkles and chain. When it comes to jewellery this glamorous, it's almost begging to be layered. That's why we think Lulu Frost's lookbook styling is kind of brilliant. Reminds us of glamorous socialites like the vintage style icon Millicent Rogers.

TASSELS... from runways to Sophie's Closet

Louis Vuitton S/S 2011

This season many designers focused on the glamorous and playful 1920s flapper look, most notably Louis Vuitton. And, naturally, there were many tassels and fringes involved! It's probably an understatement when we say that we are kind of obsessed with tassels at the moment.

Of course there is no need to wear them with matching dresses. They can be worn with anything: little black dresses, summer maxis, blouses, t-shirts and jeans.

We love the emphasis on rich golds here. Summer always calls for some serious gold! Very subtle and elegant looks.

And here, we are seeing some more colours: reds, rose golds and mixture of rhinestones. These looks are a bit louder: definite head-turners.
