Green with Envy

Emerald Green has been a definite favorite of the top design houses this season, featuring heavily on the runways of Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Stella McCartney and adorned by the most glamorous celebrities on the red carpet and also street style.

This bright, sophisticated and versatile color will be sure to feature in your wardrobe this season.

Gucci S/S 2013
Melinda Maria earrings

Emerald Green was featured in Gucci's Spring Summer 2013 runway show, in extreme block color form. Gucci's creative director Frida Giannini has been a great advocator of jewel tones in her most recent collections. Creating romantic and eccentric looks, using block color with a variety of materials such as fur, silk, chiffon and leather. This bold outfit would be perfect teamed with the beautiful Melinda Maria earrings.

Stella McCartney S/S 2013
LeiVanKash Parsa Pyramid Bracelets

Stella McCartney stepped away from her signature style of sharp tailoring and sexy femininity and incorporated a more masculine and casual take on block coloring. To match the more casual approach, we would suggest teaming the look with a bunch of LeiVanKash Parsa Pyramid bracelets.

Anna Della Russo
Shourouk Aplolonia Emerald Necklace
Dannijo Green Cecil earrings

No-one quite does excess like Anna Dello Russo. Every outfit the Vogue Japan editor creates, can only be described as a piece of art. Known for wearing radical runway pieces by day and never wearing an outfit twice, the over-the-top fashion icon is pictured here in a beautiful emerald green Dolce & Gabbana dress. To complete this statement look, we would either add the Shourouk Aplolonia Emerald Necklace or the Dannijo Green Cecil Earrings.

Seeing Oxblood

Hanneli Mustaparta

Oxblood is an undeniable star colour of the season, and it will be continuing its reign come spring as well. This seductive deep red shade has an ability to look both daytime and nighttime appropriate, and extremely polished at that.
 Miroslava Duma
Vita Fede Capri Wrap

We love Miroslava Duma's sporty take with her leather jumpsuit. Not only is oxblood a gorgeous colour, but really sexy in leather form. We suggest Vita Fede's wrap bracelet for go with the look.

Rodarte F/W 2012
Bounkit Faceted Ruby and Peridot Earrings

Rodarte's oxblood had a '40s ladylike feel to it. Very demure and sophisticated, we think Bounkit's ruby earrings would hit the right feel.

Jason Wu F/W 2012
Elizabeth Cole Chandelier Earrings

Oh, Jason Wu. He's becoming every girl's dream designer, taking notes from legendary Oscar de la Renta. This oxblood evening gown is a stunner and, may we say, a bit of a doppelganger for Elizabeth Cole's chandelier earrings.

Introducing SHOUROUK

Shourouk Rhaiem

Who wears Shourouk? The question is: Who doesn't? From the stylish wrists of Miroslava Duma to Anna Dello Russo's impossibly long neck, to supermodel Karlie Kloss in the pages of Vogue, to the iconic Sarah Jessica Parker.

Ever since Paris-based Shourouk Rhaiem established her label in 2007, it's been a mainstay in glossy magazine pages and celebrity accessory drawers. And for a reason, of course: Her colourful and glistening compositions are hard to resist. We are done resisting, and are happy to announce that Shourouk will be arriving to Sophie's Closet this month!

Shourouk F/W 2012

Having previously worked for Chloe, John Galliano, and Roberto Cavalli, high fashion and quality craftsmanship was already party of her design repertoire. As an avid traveller, Shourouk is inspired by her many journeys, collecting beautiful objects and placing them in her studio to spark her creativity.

Anna Dello Russo wearing a Shourouk necklace and earrings

The result is a fantastic mash-up of worldly inspirations, like vivid colours from Bollywood films and the opulence of Russian aristocracy.

Miroslava Duma wearing Shourouk bracelets

So beautiful, one can instantly glamourize a simple jean dress like Miroslava Duma's, just by adding a little Shourouk.

Kourtney Kardashian wearing a Shourouk necklace

Especially when it comes to the bright statement necklaces that add that extra ooph! to any outfit.

Shourouk F/W 2012

One of our favourite pieces from this collection is the triple band ring. Genius!

We'll be posting the pieces on our online store as soon as they arrive, so keep an eye out. Don't let them get away!

Q&A with Summer Rej, Dauphines of New York

Taking inspiration from Boho icons like Anita Pallenberg and Jane Birkin, and the original bad girl style icon, Marie Antoinette, the tragic Queen of France, Dauphines of New York has landed on some of the chicest heads in the fashion world. We are referring to the beautiful jewelled headpieces that are sure to make every woman feel like royalty. We caught up with Dauphines founder Summer Rej to learn more about her collection.

Do you remember your first jewellery memory?
Yes, primarily around New York: observing glamourous NYC women; the windows of stores on Madison Avenue and Fifth Avenue; and also viewing timeless artifacts through visits to museums in New York and throughout Europe.

Marie Antoinette

Your background is in publishing. What prompted you to start your own line?
After graduating from Cornell University in 2006, I worked in Advertising at Vogue Living, followed by a position in Creative Services at Vogue from 2006-2009. Afterwards, I had the opportunity to do editorially focused work for stylists on international and domestic photoshoots. I was fortunate to work for some of the most innovative taste makers in the industry, where I was exposed to such an abundance of creative energy. From that, the concept blossomed, the idea became a reality, and Dauphines of New York was born.

Amber Headpiece
(exclusive to Sophie's Closet)

What inspired the name Dauphines of New York?
Dauphines of New York is inspired by Marie Antoinette, who was a Dauphine of France prior to holding the title of Queen. Since many of the designs are modern tiaras, the name seemed appropriate.

Kate Moss

Who is your number one style icon?
Kate Moss.

If you could pick one person to wear Dauphines of New York, who would it be?
You! Dauphines of New York is for the discerning and trendsetting modern women of today -- the style icons of tomorrow.

Complete this sentence: I'm happiest, when I'm...
With friends roaming around New York.

Thinking Baroque

Interview Germany (October 2012)

Baroque is the art period of the moment. (A couple of seasons ago, it was all about Art Deco.) We love its audacity, its opulence and, most importantly, Baroque and jewellery go together like milk and cookies.

Milan Fashion Week street style, photographed by Tommy Ton

The fashion crowd in Milan has fully embraced this lavish look, as captured by Tommy Ton -- all the colours, florals and gold!

Valentino F/W 2012

Valentino's current collection plays on the softer, more romantic side of the trend with delicate pinks, mixed with glistening gold.

Miu Miu F/W 2012

Miu Miu and its printed suits sure look like antique upholstery, accented by gold accessories.

Anna Dello Russo, photographed by Tommy Ton

Fashion eccentric Anna Dello Russo knows how to make a fashion week entrance and she's chosen Dolce & Gabbana's dazzling collection to do so.

Dolce & Gabbana F/W 2012

We love all the gold leafy embroidery, large drop earrings, and jewelled headpieces we wrote about a couple of weeks ago.

Dolce & Gabbana F/W 2012

And the combination of gold and pearls is always a winning one (just look at this intricate little bag!), and it's precisely what we want to wear in the fall.

Be Jewelled

Chanel Pre-Fall 2012

Ornate is definitely a term we'll be hearing a lot this season. Fall 2012 is dazzling in beautiful brocade numbers and stunning jewels. Karl Lagerfeld kicked off the trend with his Pre-Fall 2012 Chanel collection titled Paris-Bombay, and we were completely seduced by the jewelled headpieces.

Miroslava Duma wearing Chanel

So was bona fide street style star, Miroslava Duma, who was photographed wearing a Chanel headpiece.

Enter Erickson Beamon and their equally impressive number, with a gold chain to be worn down the middle hair part, similar to Miroslava Duma.

Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2012

Dolce & Gabbana also showed jewelled headpieces some love. Their collection, inspired by Sicilian Baroque, was perhaps the most strikingly ornamental collection this season.

Dauphines of New York Pearl and Glass Headpiece (pre-order)

Luckily for us, Dauphines of New York designed some gorgeous pieces exclusively for Sophie's Closet. 'Amber', featuring pearls and amber has a lovely Eastern feel to it, and the pearl and glass one is so amazingly decadent, princess-worthy.

Dannijo "Jahzara" (pre-order)

And, that's not all! We also have a jewelled stunner called "Jahzara" from Dannijo arriving any day now. Here's a sneak peek -- very Indian-inspired! -- worn by their lovely studio intern. (Thanks for the pic, Dannijo! We can't wait to receive it.)

Elizabeth Cole & Zac Posen

Coco Rocha in Zac Posen Spring 2012 featuring Elizabeth Cole's Red Cherry Flower Earrings

Summer season is almost over and soon we'll be checking out all the fall goodies. But before we do that, we thought we'd revisit one of our favourite collections from Spring 2012: Zac Posen. As if the gowns and the dresses weren't glamorous enough on their own (we'd love to see more Zac Posen on the red carpet), they were paired with Elizabeth Cole's beautiful jewels.

What we truly love about the pairing is the Old Hollywood style, with opulent jewellery complimenting luxurious dresses. Hair and makeup were, of course, right on point, echoing the glamorous pre-war era.

Elizabeth Cole designer, Stephanie Owen, is very much inspired by antique and vintage jewellery, creating intricate compositions with crystals and semi-precious stones.

Thankfully for us, Elizabeth Cole and Zac Posen teamed up again for his Fall 2012 runway and it's just as spectacular.

Take a look at all the Elizabeth Cole pieces in our online store, shopatsophiescloset.com.
